Scaling Immersive Training Across VET Centers
The Basque Government, through its Department of Education, manages one of Europe’s most advanced VET ecosystems, with a network of 183 vocational training centers.
The region’s industrial economy demands a workforce trained in advanced manufacturing, energy, and technical operations. And as many VET systems, they face key challenges:
- Limited access to physical equipment and specialised labs
- Difficulty scaling hands-on training across multiple centers
- Lack of consistent training experiences between institutions
- Need to better align training with real industrial environments
As part of a long-term strategy to position vocational education as a coordinated innovation ecosystem, the Basque VET Strategy* has focused on scaling training models across a network of centers rather than isolated initiatives.
To address these challenges, the Basque Government launched a long-term strategy to digitally transform vocational training with a clear goal:
- Create a collaborative training ecosystem across centers
- Enable shared content and knowledge between teachers
- Introduce immersive, simulation-based learning aligned with industry needs

How the XR platform Solves the Challenge of Scaling Immersive Vocational Training
To enable this transformation, VIROO was selected as the core platform to connect the Basque Government VET Centres and deliver immersive training.
- Content creation and sharing across the VET network, enabling reuse and standardisation between centers
- VIROO immersive rooms for 1:1 real-scale training scenarios, deployed across +25 VET centers as shared infrastructure
- Collaborative, multi-user XR environments for local and remote training
- Device-agnostic deployment, supporting immersive rooms, VR headsets, and standard classroom devices

Training Applications: Content Developed by the Basque VET Network
As part of the Basque Government VET centres initiative coordinated by Tknika, they have developed a growing portfolio of curriculum‑aligned immersive training content covering multiple vocational families, including electrical systems, industrial manufacturing, logistics operations, safety training, and inclusive care scenarios.
