VIROO at EfVET 2026: Bringing XR Training to Vocational Education
The 35th EfVET Annual Conference, “Global Citizenship Empowered by VET”, concluded in Brussels on 23 October. The event brought together 600 participants from 35 countries, including policymakers, educators, industry leaders, EU officials, and learners, for 70 sessions, nine study visits, and a dedicated Youth Forum.

Over three days, the program focused on how VET can prepare learners for a changing world through digitalization, inclusion, sustainability, international cooperation, and stronger links between education and employment.
Practical training, delivered at scale
The conference was an opportunity to discuss a central challenge for VET centres: how to give more students access to hands-on training in technical, complex, or higher-risk environments.
VIROO supports this through shared XR infrastructure for vocational education. Students can practice real-world procedures in safe, repeatable virtual environments before working with physical equipment. They can interact naturally with machinery and processes, collaborate in multi-user sessions on site or remotely, and build confidence through active practice.
Teachers can also track activity and assess performance directly within the simulation.
The focus is not on technology for its own sake but on expanding access to practical learning while reducing costs, equipment constraints, and safety risks.
Shared XR infrastructure in action
Our participation builds on the article published in VET Pulse, the EfVET Magazine, Issue 38, which explores how VET centres are using VIROO to scale immersive learning.
The Basque VET network illustrates this approach in practice. VIROO is deployed across 27 centres and supports a catalogue of 15 training applications in fields including electrical systems, manufacturing, logistics, safety and care-related training. Centres can create, share and reuse content across institutions, supported by one common XR platform.
EfVET’s closing message was clear: VET needs to be “rewired” to remain a high-quality, transformative pathway for all learners. For us, that means making practical training more accessible, collaborative and scalable through technology that fits into everyday teaching
