MASTER XR concludes with over 90 organisations delivering 41 XR robotics projects

The EU-funded MASTER XR project has validated large-scale industrial XR training through 41 projects developed by more than 90 entities using the entreprise XR platform VIROO

The European project MASTER reaches its final phase after more than three years of research, development, and innovation in the field of robotics training based on immersive technologies. The official closure of the project took place on June 9, 2026, in Oldenburg (Germany), where partners and participants presented the main achievements.

This milestone marks the culmination of large-scale collaborative work that has demonstrated the potential of Extended Reality (XR) to transform industrial training. In this context, MASTER XR Platform has VIROO as the backbone, the technological engine that provides coherence, scalability, and real-world deployment to the developed solutions.

Measurable impact of XR robotics training in industry

MASTER XR has generated a tangible impact in the field of robotics training, delivering notable results:

  • More than 3 years of research and innovation in XR applied to industrial environments
  • Development of an advanced XR platform (MASTER XR Platform) for robotics training
  • Implementation of intuitive robot programming technologies, making robotics more accessible to non-expert users
  • Integration of multimodal interaction, including voice, gestures, and visual systems
  • Incorporation of eye-tracking technologies to enhance the learning experience and analyze user behavior
  • Creation of multiple XR training scenarios focused on: Workplace safety, Ergonomics, Human-robot collaboration
  • Execution of validation activities with real users (students, engineers, and industrial operators)
  • Development of an expanded ecosystem with 41 projects funded through Open Calls, contributing new solutions, content, and use cases

MASTER XR platform for European industrial robotics training

Within the project, VIROO played a key role as the central platform for deploying and operating multi-user and multi-device XR experiences.

Its contribution was essential in transforming technological developments into operational solutions, thanks to capabilities such as:

  • Centralized management of XR environments, enabling content deployment across multiple locations
  • Multi-user and collaborative experiences are essential for team training and industrial simulations
  • Scalability, allowing the transition from pilots to real training environments
  • Compatibility with multiple XR devices, ensuring technological flexibility
  • Ease of use, reducing adoption barriers in industrial and educational contexts

VIROO acted as the integrative layer of the MASTER ecosystem, enabling different technologies — from robot programming to advanced interaction systems — to be combined into a single, coherent experience.

Thanks to this foundation, the project validated not only concepts but also real industrial training use cases, demonstrating the value of XR at scale.

Future of XR-based industrial training in Europe

The MASTER XR project concludes with a clear message: robotics training is evolving towards models that are more immersive, collaborative, and user-centered.

The combination of XR technologies with platforms like VIROO has enabled:

  • Reduced risks in training environments
  • Improved acquisition of technical skills
  • Increased access to advanced training
  • The development of new industrial upskilling models

Beyond its closure, MASTER XR leaves a strong technological and methodological legacy, where VIROO is positioned as a key platform for the future of immersive training.

The path initiated by MASTER continues through new projects, industrial deployments, and real-world use cases, where XR will continue to play a leading role.
